2015 UOAA Ostomy Meeting Approaching Fast!

Meet us in St. Louis!  This September 1-6 the UOAA will host its national conference in St. Louis, MO at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis at The Arch hotel.  An exciting schedule of events have been planned and we are pleased to attend to see old friends and make new ones!  Among the events planned we are especially interested in the Young Adults Workshops, exhibit hall (of course), and all of the educational workshops.  Here is a link to a complete listing.

Parthenon Supports The 2012 Ostomate Youth Rally in Boulder Colorado

In July 2012 in Boulder, Colorado, the Youth Rally was held and the Parthenon Company joined as one of the supporters by providing product samples for the campers and staff!

Organized by the Youth Rally Commitee, which is a non profit group whose sole purpose is to provide the “Youth Rally” experience to as many kids as possible.  Every donation goes directly to the Youth Rally.  Youth Rally provides a non-threatening environment where adolescents with bladder or bowel dysfunction receive education and psychosocial support that encourages independent living. Kids ages 11-17 with bladder or bowel dysfunction attend the Youth Rally and may have any of the following procedures: Ileostomy,Colostomy,Urostomy, Ace/Malone (Appendicostomy),Self Catheterization,Bowel Management, or J-Pouch or other continent diversion. This multi-day event is designed to be fun for the kids with education, discussion groups, activities, dances, peer group support and more!

The Phoenix Magazine - "Odor Solution"

The Phoenix magazine is the official publication for members of the United Ostomy Associations of America (UOAA). Half of each subscription directly supports the UOAA and is the main source of revenue for the national, non-profit ostomy support association. Published quarterly (March, June, September and December), The Phoenix ostomy magazine is published by Ian Settlemire from his office in California. Each issue is created to provide ostomy information, patient education and inspiration to live a full and rewarding life after ostomy surgery.

September 2009 issue featured a thoughtful comment from a person with an ileostomy for 30 years facing an odor problem. It can be found in the "Ask Nurse Muchoney" section titled, "Odor Solution." The patient stated that they had received little guidance regarding odor management following their sugery. After finding that this issue affected everyone in their house, they realized something had to be done.
