5 Tips You Need To Know About Eakin Cohesive Seals For Ostomy Appliances

Tip #1 Use What Corresponds to Your Ostomy Type

Do you have a urostomy? If so, the 839001 large rings are recommended for you.  Do you have an ileostomy? It's likely that the 839002 small Eakin Cohesive rings will best suit your needs.  If you have a colostomy and wear a one-piece pouch, the 839005 slim rings will be a great option.

Tip #2 Do You Have Limited Dexterity?

If it's difficult to do fine motor skills with your hands, then the 839006 StomaWrap will be easiest to use.  Just take the paper off and wrap it around the stoma and overlapping any excess material.

Tip #3 Is Your Stoma Large or Oval Shaped?

If your stoma is really large or oval shaped making it hard to fit with the traditional Eakin stoma rings, then the StomaWrap 839006 will be the best product to use.

Tip #4 Ways To Save Money

You can save often by buying in bulk as retailers may give "bulk" discounts. Also, watch for sales.  As mentioned earlier there are similar products made by HollisterColoplastNu-Hope and more that could be less in price and may even be the better choice for you.  It's important for you to sample these and make your own decision.

    Tip 5 Don't Waste Excess

Let's be frank, Eakin rings are not cheap. Many people hesitate to buy them because they are so costly. An easy way to get the most bang for your buck when using Eakin Cohesive Seals is to use half of the ring. Take one half and stretch it and mold it to fit the desired area of skin (not everyone has this luxury and must use an entire ring each time). If you can make this work, you have just cut your cost of these rings in half!

Important Tips For Eakin Cohesive Seals

It is safe to say that every ostomate has heard of Eakin cohesive seals at some point.  They may or may not use them or maybe an analogous product from another manufacturer. Versions of Eakin Cohesive Seals are offered by Coloplast, Hollister, Nu-Hope, Marlen, Cymed and more!

Eakin accessories are a widely used and trusted ostomy accessory around the United States. We have some important points that can help you decide which Eakin ostomy accessory is best for you.

Four Types of Eakin Ostomy Accessories

Did you know there are four different kinds of eakin ostomy accessories?  They have designed them to be different diameters and thicknesses to best fit your individual needs.

    1. 839001 Large Eakin Cohesive Seals 4" - Large cohesive seals for urostomates to cover a large area of peristomal skin and can be used with deep convexity fitting situations.
    2. 839002 Small Eakin Cohesive Seals 2" - Designed for those with high fluid content and to resolve leakage problems.  This can also provide "soft" convexity.
    3. 839005 Slim Eakin Cohesive Seals 2" - Like the 839002 but not as thick. Designed for those who change their pouch often and have convex ostomy pouches. Use these with Pre-cut ostomy appliances to get an exact fit.
    4. 839006 Eakin Cohesive StomaWrap - Designed for ostomates with large or oval shaped stomas as well as those individuals with limited dexterity. This design also facilitates a quick pouching routine.

New Eakin Ostomy Accessory for 2016

It's been a while since ConvaTec has made a change or addition to their Eakin product line. For so long they have produced one of the most popular stony rings on the market. With this ring, there have been a few variations in size (two inch and four inch diameter and the slim).  These options have done a fair job of handling the needs of ostomates with leaks around their stoma or uneven areas around the stoma.

New for 2016, ConvaTec introduced the Eakin Cohesive StomaWrap 839006 for even more options for people that love Eakin ostomy products.  Try the Eakin StomaWrap today!

The Eakin StomaWrap makes it so the user doesn't need to stretch or tear, but simply wrap around the stoma.  Use fingers to smooth edges and get a custom fit.  It's ideal for large and oval shaped stomas.

ConvaTec Accordion Flange Introduced Summer 2014!

This summer ConvaTec finally introduced their version of Hollister's Floating Flange.  The Accordion flange with Moldable Tecnhology will be compatible with their SUR-FIT Natura line which should prove to be very popular.  The idea of this type of flange is to make the part that seals with the pouch lift up and off of the skin allowing the fingers to get behind the section and make pouch application easier and much more comfortable.  We are excited that ConvaTec decided to make this item available to its customer base!

Did ConvaTec's 22771 Ostomy Pouch Get an Facelift?

Has the 22771 ActiveLife drainable ostomy pouch been upgraded?  This pouch is considered an "entry level" pouch or one that is issued by the hospital right after surgery.  There are equivalents made by Coloplast and Hollister.  It is amazing how many people start with this pouch and continue to use it years later despite superior pouching options on the market.
Nevertheless this pouch by ConvaTec is a constant that allows one to cut-to-fit the opening to accommodate varying stoma size and drainable with clip closure.  The features are nothing special but appeal to most users.
We wish ConvaTec would make some improvements to this pouch as there are always complaints about the tackiness of the skin barrier part and some people have problems with the straight plastic clip provided.  It is likely they will simply replace this one with something from one of their newer lines.
Until then you can always buy them at Parthenon at the lowest price.  We will beat any price by 5% if it is less than ours.  Just tell us where you found it and we will start saving you $$$ NOW!

ConvaTec Sensi-Care Adhesive Releaser Spray and Wipes FAQs

How is Sensi-Care Sting Free Adhesive Releaser supplied?
5 ounce (150mL) aerosol spray, reference SKU 420798

    • How Is Sensi-Care Sting Free Adhesive Remover wipes supplied?
30 per box, reference SKU 413500

    • Do The Releaser And Remover Contain preservatives, Fragrances or latex?
No, they are a blend of 100% silicone ingredients.

    • Are the Releaser and Remover flammable?
Yes, but the propellant used has been specially selected to be non-flammable and the product is less flammable than many domestic aerosol products.

•How long will a can of Adhesive Remover last?
Many ostomates who use a one-piece ostomy product will use a can per month.

•How does the Adhesive Remover work?
The fluid is designed to track readily between the adhesive and the skin, creating a layer of silicone. Silicone is a release agent, so the adhesive falls away from the skin. The silicone then evaporates in seconds, without affecting the adhesive or the skin, so the same adhesive can be re-stuck (if required).

Is the Adhesive Remover available in a screw-cap bottle?
No, the formulation is that it must be kept in a sealed container. If an aerosol spray is undesirable, the releaser can be sprayed into the cap and then poured around the adhesive or you may use the remover wipe.

    • Are the Releaser and Remover biocompatible?
Yes, they are both manufactured from a blend of silicones, the safety and biocompatibility of silicones is well understood and widely published.

    • Will the Releaser Or Remover sting?
No, the formulation is a 100% silicone blend. Silicone blends do not sting on application, even on sore skin.

    • I have sensitive skin.  Can I use both the Releaser and Remover?
Sensitivity to silicones is extremely rare. It is used in many areas of healthcare including dentistry, topical and oral medications, advanced wound dressings and many beauty products (moisturizers, shampoos etc). Both the Releaser and Remover are hypoallergenic.

    • Can I spray the can horizontally?
Yes, but only briefly. The can contains a special valve that enables inverted spray, but continuous horizontal spraying will exhaust the propellant prematurely.

    • I have a stoma and my skin is irritated underneath the wafer.  Can the Releaser and Remover help?
Frequent removal of adhesives can strip cells from the outer layer of your skin and reduce protection. This can lead to redness and irritation. Removing adhesives with the Releaser and Remover reduces the risk of damage and may therefore reduce your irritation

ConvaTec Color Match for Ostomy Appliances

You might have noticed that there is another way to tell if your skin barriers or wafers will be compatible with your ostomy bags.  Instead of using the flange sizes, you can look at the box they are in and on it will be a color.  This color will also be on the box of corresponding skin barriers.  This is a general and vague tool because there will be many options if you just go by this method, but at least you can tell if they will at least fit.
