How To Change and/or Remove a Hydrofera Blue Dressing

Hydrofera Blue Bacteriostatic Foam Wound Dressings are designed for local wound management and to be a part of the overall management program for wounds.  They maintain a moist wound environment that will facilitate wound healing.  If allowed to desiccate, rehydration with sterile saline or sterile water is recommended prior to removal.

Steps

  • Change the dressing every 1-3 days
  • Do not let the dressing completely dry out.
  • Rehydrate dressing as needed depending on drainage amount.
  • The dressing should be changed if the dressing turns white.
  • The dressing should be changed upon strike through drainage.

Ostomy Application and Removal

  • Gently remove the old wafer/skin barrier.
  • Wash the peristomal skin with soap and water.
  • Rinse with water and dry the skin.
  • Measure the circumference of the stoma using a measuring guide and trim the inner circle of the Hydrofera Blue Ostomy dressing so that it is smaller than the wafer.
  • HB should be moistened and squeezed out. Place the HB film side away from skin.
  • Cut the wafer larger than the circumference of the Hydrofera Blue Ostomy Dressing.
  • Attach and seal the new pouch to the wafer per manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Hydrofera Blue Ostomy dressing should be changed when the wafer/pouch is changed.
