Nu-Comfort Ostomy Belt New For 2015 from Nu-Hope Laboratories

Try The Nu-Comfort Belt Today!

Are you tired of the tiny one inch appliance belt that is supposed to provide support for your ostomy appliance?  Rather than provide any beneficial ostomy appliance support you get the belt twisted up and digging into your side.  It's like wearing a rope!  We didn't think you liked that!
Now there's an alternative and it's from Nu-Hope Labs.  Their new belt is called the Nu-Comfort Belt.  It is designed to accommodate 2-piece ostomy systems and some 1-piece systems.  It is 2 inches in width with a ring plate to provide 360 degrees of support on the skin barrier and some peritstomal support.  This belt is small enough to be discreet and large enough to attach to and support your appliance.  Also, the ring plate adds to the belt by providing support around the skin barrier to keep it fixed in place.

We think it's a great new product from NuHope and think many ostomates will be very pleased to find out about this great alternative to their standard ostomy belt!

Stock Number                                          Size
7300                                           Medium: 23"–43" (58 –109 cm)

Adapt Ostomy Belt (beige color)
Can I wash my belt?
Yes. Adapt ostomy belts can be hand-washed in cold water with a mild soap, and hung to dry. Gentle care will add longevity to your belt.

How often should I replace my belt?
Adapt ostomy belts are made of elastic and will stretch out with repeated use. Belts should typically be replaced two to three times per year to help ensure their effectiveness. Most people have at least two belts — one to wear, and one for back-up.

Do Adapt ostomy belts contain latex?
Adapt ostomy belts do not contain natural rubber latex.

How tight should I secure the belt?
The proper belt tension is important to keep the pouch secure without excess pressure. With the belt attached, you should be able to easily slide two fingers between the belt and your skin.

Do I have to wear a belt?
No. Wearing a belt is often a matter of personal preference. Some choose to wear a belt all of the time. Some only wear a belt at specific times (e.g., during exercise). Others never wear a belt. Your WOC/ET Nurse may recommend that you wear a belt to help establish more predictable pouching system wear times.

Are there also belts available for children with ostomies?
Yes. Hollister offers a pediatric ostomy belt that is designed to be used with the Pouchkins two-piece pouching system.

Ostomy Belts - What Are My Product Options?

Having ostomy surgery is a life changing event.  The surgically created opening or stoma is now something you must attend to and keep in great condition.  There are ostomy supplies to figure out and you must keep your peristomal skin healthy.  A great way to obtain samples is to call pouch manufacturers and request a free sample.  This will allow you to try a variety of ostomy pouches and skin barriers before buying them.  Another aspect to having a stoma is the potential for a hernia to develop.

There are a variety of ostomy belts on the market today from a variety of manufacturers.  There are the standard appliance belts that attach to the belt tabs of an ostomy pouch.  These are made by ConvaTec, Hollister, Coloplast, and Genairex.  There are also belts that are a little more specialized that will provide some support as well as help conceal your pouch and these are the Celebration Ostomy Belt and the Phoenix Ostomy Belt. Finally, there is an ostomy belt made specifically to reduce and/or minimize any hernia formation around your stoma by Nu-Hope Laboratories.  They have a large selection of belts in widths from 3 inches up to 9 inches and with all sorts of customization options.  Material options are the Regular Elastic Ostomy Belt or Cool Comfort Ostomy Belt depending on climate and skin sensitivity.  Next time you have any questions about ostomy belts call Parthenon at 1-800-453-8898!

Ostomy Belts and Hernias

There are several types of ostomy belts.  NuHope Ostomy Supplies makes a complete line of belts designed to address hernias either as the NU-FORM Ostomy Support Belt or the Nu-Hope Original Flat Panel Ostomy Belt.
The Original Flat Panel Nu-Support Belt has a soft vinyl ring placed in a no-stretch panel.  Nu-Hope's Original Flat Panel ostomy belt is recommended for ostomy bag support and hernia prevention. For hernia prevention, ostomy pouch support, and smaller reducible hernias, the Original Flat Panel Ostomy Belt is recommended.
The Nu-Form Support Belt that "fits like a glove" has a belt ring allowing the elastic to form around bulges and other body shapes more naturally.  For large hernias and those that no longer reduce flat, the NU-FORM Ostomy Support Belt is recommended.
Both are available in two types of material: cool comfort or regular elastic.  Also, further customization of the ostomy belt can be made by communicating with Nu-Hope Laboratories at 1-800-899-5017.

Ostomy Hernia Support Belts - Worksheet For The Appropriate Ostomy Belt

According to some Ostomates, types of ostomy belts could be split into two categories: ostomy appliance belts and ostomy support belts.  Ostomy appliance belts are those such as: Convatec Ostomy Appliance Belt, 175507 or Hollister's Adapt Ostomy Belt (beige color) and these products attach to the ostomy pouch with a plastic connection to secure the appliance to the body.  Ostomy support belts are those such as Nu-Hope's Nu-Form Style ostomy support belt and their Original Flat Panel ostomy support belt. This belt provides complete support for the user especially addressing parastoma hernias.  The worksheet below can assist you in choosing a an ostomy support belt by Nu-Hope Laboratories.

Hernia / Ostomy Belt Worksheet By Nu-Hope Laboratories, Inc.

1)    Belt Style: (select one)
□ Nu-Form™ Style for support of non-reducible hernia
□ Original Flat Panel for pouch support/hernia prevention and small bulge flattening

2)  Belt Fabric: (select one)  □ Regular Solid Elastic or □ Ventilated Cool Comfort®

3) Belt Width: For hernia prevention, pouch support, prolapsed stoma and small bulge flattening, a narrow belt (3” or 4”) is normally sufficient.  For hernia support, first, measure the hernia or area you want to support from bottom of the hernia to the top and then take that size and round up to the next whole inch size. It’s typical that only 2/3 to 3/4 of the hernia needs to be captured by the belt.

Original Flat Panel  3”         4”         5”         6”         7”         8”         9”         Other______”
Nu-Form™                3”         4”         5”         6”         7”         8”         9”         Other______”

4) Belt Size:  Measure horizontally around the body in line with the stoma.  If herniated, the measurement should be made while lying on the back (supine position) after 5-10 minutes. If the measurement falls between sizes, go the next larger size.

Girth measurement: Standing: _______”  or Lying (supine):_______”
(circle one)            Small (28”-31”)    Medium (32”-35”)    Large (36”-40”)    X-Large (41”-46”)  XXLarge (47”-52’)

5) Stoma Location: (circle one)   Left Size                    Right Side

6) Belt Opening: For two piece systems, usually ½” is added to the flange size. One piece systems, adhesive couplings, and tabs please contact Nu-Hope customer service.
Belt Opening___________” or Pouch Manufacturer________
Product #__________
(if already known)                       □One Piece  □Two Piece  Flange Size:________”

7) Opening Placement: To find the hole placement (other than standard), measure from the bottom of the hernia or where you would like the belt to start, up to the center of the stoma.  Next, divide the required hole size by two and subtract it from the measurement taken between the bottom of the hernia and the center of the stoma. This will tell you the distance between the bottom edge of the belt and inside edge of the hole.

Nu-Form™:                3” through 6” have a centered opening
7” through 9” have the opening 1” from the bottom

Original Flat Panel:   3” & 4” have a centered opening
6” and 9” have the opening 1” from the bottom

Ostomy Belts ... An Essential Ostomy Accessory

Ostomy belts are used by some ostomates.  For whatever reason some people with ostomies decide not to wear an ostomy belt.  The choice isn't quite clear because they provide added support to the body, help keep the ostomy appliance properly attached, and some every control or reduce herniation around the stoma.  There are a variety of ostomy belts:

The belts above are all unique offering varying features. Some simply attach to the ostomy pouch with a basic hook attachment while others have a panel that conforms and supports the stoma and peristomal area as well as the ostomy appliance.
