1. Shake can well before spraying.
2. Select what you want to remove from your skin and choose a corner of it to peel back. For example something like the edge of a skin barrier or wound dressing.

Hollister Restore Extra Thin Hydrocolloid Dressing Application Instructions

After you've left the outpatient wound clinic, you may have not received proper instructions on how to apply your Restore Extra Thin Hydrocolloid wound dressing. Before applying your wound dressing be sure to wash your hands and lay out your "tools" (dressing, gloves, wound cleanser/saline, gauze, and wound measuring guide).  It's important not to rush the changing process, but to get the wound clean and prepped for the new dressing.

How To Apply Restore Extra Thin Wound Dressings:

1.   Choose the correct size of the Restore Extra Thin Hydrocolloid Dressing so that it extends one inch beyond the wound edges on all sides. (Dressings may be overlapped or cut to accommodate the size of the wound).

2. Remove dressing from package. (Restore Extra Thin Hydrocolloid Dressings are provided in sterile packages if aseptic technique is required).

3. Remove the release paper from the dressing. (Too much handling of the adhesive may interfere with good dressing and skin contact).

4. Center the dressing over the wound site. (The dressing will not adhere to the moist wound surface).

5. Gently press the dressing to the skin and smooth out wrinkles. (For difficult-to-manage sites, hold dressing in place for 60 seconds to improve adherence. Taping of the edges of the dressing is not required but may help in areas of high friction such as heels, elbows, or coccyx).

1. Wash and dry your skin thoroughly.

2. Cut strips to the length needed. (Figure 2)

3. Place strip on the skin barrier (Figure 3) or directly on the skin.

4. Apply your ostomy pouch as usual.

 

Hollister's Adapt barrier strips can be cut, bent and stacked together to improve the fit of your ostomy appliance.  Each strip is 5-1/8" in length and there are 10 strips to a box.

How often should I replace my belt?
Adapt ostomy belts are made of elastic and will stretch out with repeated use. Belts should typically be replaced two to three times per year to help ensure their effectiveness. Most people have at least two belts — one to wear, and one for back-up.

Do Adapt ostomy belts contain latex?
Adapt ostomy belts do not contain natural rubber latex.

How tight should I secure the belt?
The proper belt tension is important to keep the pouch secure without excess pressure. With the belt attached, you should be able to easily slide two fingers between the belt and your skin.

Do I have to wear a belt?
No. Wearing a belt is often a matter of personal preference. Some choose to wear a belt all of the time. Some only wear a belt at specific times (e.g., during exercise). Others never wear a belt. Your WOC/ET Nurse may recommend that you wear a belt to help establish more predictable pouching system wear times.

Are there also belts available for children with ostomies?
