How to Use Stomahesive Paste - An Ostomy Accessory Guide

ConvaTec's Stomahesive Paste sku# 183910 is probably one of the most common ostomy accessories.  We find that a few people have the wrong idea about ostomy paste in general referring to Stomahesive 183910, Adapt Paste 79300, Coloplast's paste, and Hollister's 7910 Karaya Paste.  Imagine it as caulk for your ostomy appliance which is applied as a bead around the barrier opening.  The ostomy paste is meant to keep stomal output from getting to peristomal skin and minimize irritation.  It is not so much an adhesive and can't be expected to demonstrate great adhering qualities even though it's tacky.  There are two ways to apply Stomahesive Paste, sku# 183910: apply directly to the ostomy skin barrier; apply directly to the skin.  Stomahesive Paste will fill in uneven areas around the stoma to prevent leaks.  It will complement the fit of your ostomy appliance and improve wear time. All ostomies meaning colostmies, ileostomies, and urostomies can benefit from its use.  Keep in mind that it does contain alcohol so it will sting a little on sensitive skin!
